RELEVANT

WHY should I study “The Fruit of the Spirit Is Truth”?

• To help me better understand the meaning of “truth.”
• To learn why I need to manifest truth as a fruit of the Spirit.
• To understand the importance of truth in the Christian life.

LEARN: CREDIBLE

WHAT are the Bible facts in “The Fruit of the Spirit Is Truth”?
• If I earnestly seek Jesus, who represents truth, then I will find truth (Jer. 29:13).
• Jesus is truth personified (John 14:6).
• The Spirit guides me to all truth (John 16:3).
• The Spirit will also testify to God (John 15:26).
•  If I am broken in spirit—meaning weak from the burden of sin—I shouldn’t get depressed. I should learn from my experience (Ps. 51:17).
• I must work wholeheartedly or my service will be worthless (2 Chron. 25:2).
• By using the prayer of David, I focus on what I need to help me in my struggle to be a true follower of Christ (1 Chron. 29:10-20).

APPLY: TIMELY

HOW are the principles of “The Fruit of the Spirit Is Truth” seen today in the media?
• The “Real” Chris Brown? Pop star Chris Brown has always presented a good-boy image, but after a domestic incident involving him and his then girlfriend Rihanna, his image is forever tarnished. Scandalous pictures of Rihanna have appeared, and some people are starting to wonder whether or not Brown leaked the photos (singersroom.com/news. Accessed May 11, 2009).
• The NBA admits their mistake. Dallas Mavericks players and fans alike were livid over a missed call in the playoffs that cost the Mavericks a game. After the game, league officials reviewed the play and made an official apology to the Mavericks for the missed call (sports.yahoo.com/nba/news. Accessed May 11, 2009).

APPLY: CONVERSATION

Teen Witness: So apparently the news just keeps getting worse for Chris Brown.
Teen Friend: How so?
Teen Witness: Well, some scandalous photos of Brown’s ex-girlfriend were recently released, and some people are claiming that Brown is the source.
Teen Friend: Did he?
Teen Witness: I don’t know. But the point is that ever since he was accused of beating Rihanna, his character has been questioned.
Teen Friend: Well, it kind of stinks that he did what he did—if he did it. But everybody makes mistakes, so I forgave him. I mean, even NBA officials made a bad mistake. They apologized for making the wrong call in a playoff game, and people will sooner or later forgive them.
Teen Witness: They apologized? Wow! That’s pretty big of them. And you’re right. The NBA always wants to come across as fair. Hey! Some of us are going to get together on Wednesday at my house to talk about these sorts of news items. We’re trying to get a positive perspective. I’d like to hear your reactions and ideas.

INTEGRATE: DOABLE

HOW do I use and share the principles of “The Fruit of the Spirit Is Truth” for my own spiritual growth and share them with other people?
• I now use David’s prayer in 1 Chronicles 29:10-20 as an example of how to pray for a true heart.
• I share with my siblings what it means not only to do the right things but to do them wholeheartedly.

MASTER:
MEASURABLE

WHAT changes in thinking, action, or reaction have I begun/made as a result of studying “The Fruit of the Spirit Is Truth”?
• I have a new attitude.
• I read 2 John 4 with a new mind-set, and I try to walk in the truth just as God commands me to do.
• I make sure that I am not in that crowd that is listed in Mark 7:6.
